Celestial Seasonings decaf teas are naturally decaffeinated using nontoxic carbon dioxide (CO2), the same compound that plants breathe in daily. We do not use harsh or hazardous solvents to decaffeinate our teas. The process is commonly referred to as Supercritical CO2 Fluid Extraction. CO2 is usually a gas; however, at a controlled temperature and under extreme pressure, CO2 liquefies and acts like a solvent. Liquefied CO2 is highly selective in removing caffeine without affecting other natural components in the tea. Decaf teas are not to be confused with our naturally caffeine-free teas.
